Extremely Short Reviews: DC One Million Shadow of the Bat & Nightwing

The Batman of the 853rd century fights crime in Gotham in present day. Later on he meets Nightwing.

Old SPOILERS AHEAD

Shadow of the Bat

We learn that the virus that was released in DCOM #1 creates paranoia. The people of Gotham--including the police--are inflected. The future Batman does all he can to contain the madness.

Overall: A neat twist on the mythos with this Batman being in charge of a prison planet to make sure the tragedy that created him can never happen again. Batman controls the planet Pluto which makes the comparisons to the God of the underworld more apparent as he rules over these condemned criminals. He even took Bruce's soul in the main story.

Enough remains the same to draw a connection to Bruce while this Batman still has his own flair. He creates a holo recording detailing how his enemy created him, leaves out who he is and uses it to find the location. I'm not sure how a holo can run out of tape though.

There's enough ties ins to other issues to keep the mystery alive with this Batman. It's enjoyable and connects to the Nightwing story.

Nightwing

Dick finds himself being attacked by the future Batman. They stop a crime together and decide to look for a cure to the virus.

Overall: The fact Batman only fights with Nightwing because he assumes it's a tradition of the time period is some great meta humor. It's just good fun with a team up and showcasing what this Batman can do. I think these would both work as stand alones, at least for the most part. The exception being the problem with the virus isn't solved in either story and we don't know why only some were affected.
