Short Review: Action Comics #997

My digital copy froze on the page selection until I accessed it from another computer. I hope it doesn't continue doing that since it's easier to just use a tablet. Anyway this Valentine's Day Superman and Booster continue their time traveling while Lois and Jon meet her dad.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Does Clark know Booster is a Time Master or think he just took this on? If it's the former he shouldn't have given Booster so much crap. If it's the latter why didn't he argue about Booster not having the authority to tell him what to do?

I'm not loving this and that's partly to do with Lor being written like a more bloodthirsty General Zod. He doesn't even stand out as his own character. It's awful to see Lor who in another life was Clark's adopted son Chris made into this mess.

Booster takes a backseat and seems to chatter for the sake of chattering adding nothing of value. Superman and Skeets both tell him to be quiet at two different times then Skeets (who is free?) speaks and is apparently destroyed. He barely does anything but talk, wants Superman to save them despite the Kryptonite and even his force field seems less impressive. I'm guessing Skeets transferred into an Eradicator but this section just made me mad. Yes this is Superman 's book but Booster is wasted here. He looks helpless and a little dim.

Why would they try to kill Booster when he's the one that knows how to operate the time machine? The Zods never tried to get revenge before?

Lois finding her dad and Jon meeting his granddad is far more satisfying. More so for Lois' narration that her dad doesn't know about Jon's abilities nor will he ever. Basically telling us that she doesn't trust him even when the secret has to do with his grandson. That's some good character insight.

The next issue might be better and explain Booster's behavior but I wasn't impressed with this issue. It's not horrible, Booster has been written worse but he didn't even seem to fit in the scenario. He actually annoyed me and I'm usually on his side. I'd probably be more on the Zods side from an emotional stand point of the General missing out on so much time with his family if they weren't so sadistic.
