Also known as the post-crisis introduction of Jason Todd which also features Dick Grayson leaving the role of Robin. Needless to say Bruce comes off as an idiot.

I bought these issues at the Batman sale. This story deals in drug use and the fall out. This is a live review with my thoughts as I read.

New Warriors VOL.1

I started reading New Warriors and got curious enough to see where they started off. This is the trade that has the team being formed by Night Thrasher, Namorita, Nova, Marvel Boy, Speedball and Firestar. New Warriors 1-6 vol. 1 along with Thor 411-412.

Taking a break from DC

While I'll still be getting RHATO and Earth 2 the solicits killed my enthusiasm for DC for awhile, so I'm putting them aside for now. Marvel didn't really impress me either (other than New Warriors) but I'll be looking over Marvel trades. Some older stories like the first volume of New Warriors and also a newer book that recently caught my attention called Superior Foes. It's about the lesser bad guys of Spider-Man in various funny situations.

I am still looking forward to DC books like the Booster Gold one shot and hoping to see his series return. But for now I need to step away because I feel pretty frustrated.

I was glancing at the Spider Solicits and I saw this

At first I was thinking "that's Ben Reillys' costume, no it'll be the Dr. Ock one--wait it IS Bens' suit!" I get a closer look and realize it's Spider-Girl Mayday Parker! One the one hand yea she's appearing on the other it's under a writer I don't care for during an event that will kill off spider characters. More thoughts below on what this could mean.

These are my first impressions although I'll reread it later to double check since this confused me.

Status Quo, "Huge Changes" and the Parental Figure

In comics--at least the main two companies--there never seems to be much of an actual lasting change for the characters. Someone gets publically unmasked? Find a way to undo it. Characters are seen as too old for being married? Get a means to retcon it to live out the "glory days." Basically bringing them back to square one in various ways. Needless to say it's one of the reasons I get sick of the more well known characters. There's illusion of change without much if any actual growth. Take Spider-Man for example and you'll know what I mean.

Selfie Variants for some DC Books

Some are kind of blah (the Grayson one being particularly disappointing) while others are cute.

Flash: Yes, I would take a picture of that too! HA!
Harley Quinn: As chaotic as you'd expect. :D
Batman/Superman: Perhaps the cutest of the bunch, just as couple-y as the Wonder Woman/Superman one actually.
Aquaman: Is a photobomber but the fact the shark is there makes it even funnier.
Batman and Robin: Sure it's cute I just have a hard time buying that being Damian. I like that it's on Gordons' wall though.

But honestly I skimmed over the second part and just focused on the Booster parts.

I was curious how the meeting of Dinah, Babs and Helena Wayne would be handled enough to click on this. ...It continues to makes me dislike new 52 Barbara Gordon.

Lobo and Trinity of Sin get ongoing books

I'm pretty neutral on Lobo and only care about the Question with the trio so both of these are passes for me. Still their not bat books or Deathstroke which is a nice change.

I REALLY miss May "Mayday" Parker

Not only for how awesome the character is but also the family life of the Parkers. Look at Mary Jane calling Peter on his B.S.

 

 THIS is what I miss from Marvel and why I stayed away for so long after it's cancellation. Ironically enough since the Spider-Girl series spun out of the Clone Saga Scarlet Spider and now New Warriors are the only books I've gotten since.

Just what everyone wanted: More Bat Books!

Neither of these really appeal to me although I'm curious what the story with Arkham Manor is. Can you imagine him explaining this one?

Bruce Wayne: Arkham Asylum never worked. I'm doing the smart thing by moving the worst of the worst inside my childhood home. It's the perfect plan.

Jason Todd: By putting them where you live literally on top of the bat cave?

Tim Drake: What about our rooms?

Alfred Pennyworth: What about the family heirlooms? Forgive me but it doesn't sound like you--

Bruce Wayne: I'll be able to watch them all and we'll move into the cave. I put the Penguin in Tims' room. Tony Zucco in Dicks' and the Joker in Jasons'.

Jason Todd: You sick son of a bitch!

We'll see how they spin that one. Anyway, remember how I said I don't care for Deathstroke? Guess who's getting another try at a solo?
