Happy 75th Anniversary Batman!

Todays' the big day when Batman made his first appearance. Why do you love the character and/his mythos? What do you like about him/his world the best?

My dad always says that one of the biggest draws for him was the idea of Bruce Wayne watching his parents die and how that messed with his mind. Basically the torment of the character. Some think he has the best rogues and while I can see the appeal of both of these that's not my favorite part of the world Batman lives in.

I like how despite the loss he suffered Bruce still inspires people and created his own surrogate family. I love seeing the humanity in the character and the family he created. I don't think Batman would be nearly as interesting if he was just a brooding guy that never let anyone in. Without Alfred, the Robins and the others he'd be a shell of a man devoted solely to the mission. He might not always treat them right but their important to him and remind him what he's fighting for. When done right it's one of my favorite parts of comics, seeing these people broken by tragedy coming together to fix themselves. Well in theory, having Bruce act like a jerk does tend to ruin the idea. But if there was no Batman there would be no Alfred, Selina Kyle, Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Damian Wayne, Kate Kane, or anyone else in Gotham.
